Downsview Gets $18.4 Million in New Investment.
As you know, I have been working diligently as co-chair of the Downsview Aerospace Campus Working Group to encourage investment and renewal to the Aerospace sector in our Community. When the military base was shut down in Downsview in the late 90′s it robbed our local economy of hundreds of millions of dollars. I have been working towards its renewal and the latest investment is just the next step.

In addition to the $18.4 million in new federal money, the province has also given $25‎.8 million to the project bringing the total investment thus far to $44.2. This money will be dedicated to an aerospace innovation campus in Downsview that will create long-term, high-skilled jobs allowing Downsview to be globally competitive, not to mention bolster our local economy.

Read more about the new federal investment here.

Murray Road Regeneration Area Update
As you might be aware, a “regeneration area” study has been underway for the Murray Road lands for some time. This has included a comprehensive review of the use of the lands, an injunction on any increased industrial activity, and the installation of air monitoring equipment for health and safety purposes. In addition, a pedestrian and cycling bridge is proposed for access to Downsview Park through a new neighbourhood in Downsview Park of what will be luxury town homes. Additionally, a new traffic control signal has been activated at Wilson and Murray to enhance safety in the area.  For more information you can check here. Read more…

Protecting Our Community From Heavy Industrial Activity
At the last session of Council, I successfully pushed for a halt to expansion of heavy industrial operations at the site of the former Sunrise Propane facility on Murray Road. Council was unanimous in supporting my initiative. Watch my comments here. Read about it here.
Sewer Rehabilitation

You may have noticed a lot of sewer work happening this month in our community. This is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure our sewer and stormwater runoff infrastructure is being kept in a state of good repair as well as upgraded. Specifically this month, the following streets were being worked on:

  • Spenvalley Drive
  • Northover Street
  • Renshaw Stret
  • Tavistock Road
  • Thwaite Avenue
  • Sheppard Avenue
