DiverseCity Fellows is a one-year action-oriented leadership program for rising city-builders who are deeply committed to enhancing their leadership abilities and collectively addressing issues that are critical to the future health and wealth of the Toronto region.

As a Fellow, you will participate in interactive learning sessions, networking events and a mentoring relationship with an experienced city-builder.

Throughout the program, you will connect with influencers and decision-makers across the GTA and form teams to design and implement a city-building action project of your own.

TTC launches new Post-Secondary Student Metropass

On August 24, the TTC will begin selling the new Post-Secondary Student Metropass.  Details about  this new pass will be made available at a media conference on Tuesday, August 24, at the TTC Head Office.

The Toronto Transit Commission moves about 1.5 million riders every weekday. The TTC is the third largest public transit system in North America servicing some 4.5 million people in the Greater Toronto Area, with a network of subways, streetcars, buses, and a specialized service, Wheel-Trans, for people who require accessible transportation. AGENDA

5:30 – ACORN Members speak to Tenants Vote Campaign and Tenants’ Issues

  • Who is ACORN?
  • What is the Tenants Vote 2010 Campaign?
  • Why are we here today?

Commitments:

  1. Expanding the current Multi-Residential Apartment Building (MRAB) audit and enforcement program
  2. Installing city-owned Notification Boxes in all high-rise apartments displaying audit results and information for relevant services
  3. The implementation of a Tenants Protection Fee, paid for by building owners, to cover the cost of the above expansion

5:45 –Mayoral Candidate commitments (3-5 minutes each)

6:15 –Begin My Rent, My Vote Rally and March to centre of St. Jamestown

*Meet’n’greet with renters and engage with press for all candidates

6:45 –Petition Signing – ACORN members will be knocking on doors in buildings in St. Jamestown and asking for renters to sign a petition stating that they will vote for candidates who support tenants’ issues. Candidates are welcome to join us!


FoodCycles Community Farm – Saturday August 7

On Saturday August 7th, FoodCycles Community Farm will be opening it’s garden gate. All are invited to visit our farm stand and sample seasonal sustainably-grown produce. Savour the flavour of fresh vegetables that haven’t traveled the long road to the supermarket, while spending your local food dollars to support our garden and compost education programs.

All eaters are welcome from 10am – 3pm. Tours of the farm and greenhouse will take place at 11am and 1pm..

FoodCycles Community Farm is a short drive from downtown or a leisurely TTC ride from Downsview Station. Feeling energized, why not ride your bike over? We located at 70 Canuck Avenue, just steps south from the Keele and Sheppard intersection. We are the 3rd southern greenhouse.
