Downsview Park Play Zone Workshop This Saturday
Downsview Park is planning to create a play zone  and needs “expert” advice from children of all ages! Come to the Park’s Discovery Centre this Saturday (Feb. 11) for an interactive workshop to help plan this new facility in Downsview Park! Ideas are needed. Like:

  • Where might the playzone be best located?
  • What play structures (if any) are most interactive?
  • What types of building materials could be used?
  • What uses are most needed (e.g. sports / discovery)?

Drop-in any time (with the kids!) between 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
Meet the people that run Downsview Park.
The workshop will feature interactive stations for children and parents to explore, design, and share their ideas. Refreshments included. Click here to RSVP and for more info.

TTC Upcoming Scheduled Closures
As part of the TTC’s ongoing replacement and repair program, the Subway needs to be periodically closed to facilitate upgrades and maintenance. Plan ahead. Here is a list of upcoming closures for the year. Mark it in your calendar.

Upcoming Developments and Changes
Want to know what that new construction or development proposal sign means? Once again, I am reminding you that you can use this handy tool to see what proposals have been submitted to the City and at what stage of approval they are at. Just select NORTH YORK, and WARD 9 then hit SEARCH.
Access the tool here.

Toronto City Budget
Next week, we will be debating the annual City Budget at Council. Some of the issues you have contacted me the most about have been funding for our libraries, and funding for childcare. The budget has proposed cuts to both of these services and as part of an ongoing effort we have pressured the Mayor to stop cuts to these crucial services. While the Mayor has signaled that he is backing off cutting these services, I will continue to fight for them next week during the budget debate. Follow along at this link next week.

What Do You Want Toronto to Know About You in 6 Words?
My City My Six is a participatory public art project that will creatively reveal Toronto’s residents in celebration of Canada 150, six words at a time. Until May 2017, you can share something essential about yourself in six words. Send your story to culturalhotspot@toronto.ca and include your first name, our neighbourhood name “Downsview” and your age. Those details will become part of the exhibition displays.

Watch Water Do Wonders
The Healthy Kids Community Challenge,  has produced this neat video to highlight how kids in our area have integrated the Water Does Wonders theme into their healthy, active lifestyle.

Are You A Hero?
The Second Harvest Hero fundraiser is a great way for you to raise money to support people in need in your community. Funds raised enable Second Harvest to rescue fresh, healthy surplus food, that would otherwise have gone to waste, and deliver it to hungry people across Toronto.
